Town of Belgrade Inter-local Waste Management program with the Town of Rome

The terms of the agreement are as follows:

Household waste will be handled on a "pay-per-bag" basis, as is used by many Maine communities with the following requirements.

1.  A town of Rome sticker must be displayed on a vehicle to use the Belgrade Transfer Station.

2.  Up to a 30-gallon bag can be used for household waste disposal. NO EXCEPTIONS

3.  All items must be in a bag.  No loose items will be accepted.

4.  Special stickers are available at the Belgrade Town Office and are sold in lots of 10 for the sum of $20.00 per lot.  Stickers should be affixed to trash bags at the point of closure (at the knot).  Bags should be transparent or semi-transparent.

5.  No construction debris, furniture, tires, televisions, or items with freon will be accepted.  This programs is for household waste only.

6.  NO contract waste haulers will be permitted use of the Belgrade Transfer Station under this programs, which is reserved for residential use only.

7.  To keep Rome residents' cost of household waste as low as possible, recycling is mandatory.  No fees apply to the following items being recycled:

a.  Corrugated cardboard (flattened), cereal boxes, egg cartons, etc.

b.  Newspapers and inserts

c.  Magazines, catalogs, and phone books

d.  Office paper (copy paper of all colors; envelopes (no windows); junk mail; bills

e.  Post-it notes; greeting, business and index cards; file folders; lined paper and shredded paper)

f.  Metals (iron, tin, aluminum, etc.)

g.  Steel and aluminum cans

h.  Glass (all colors)

i.  Plastics: #1 clear plastics (no clamshells), #2s and #5s

j.  Rechargeable batteries and fluorescent bulbs
